At Foster Moore, we often talk about registry transformation, digital innovation, and delivery excellence, but none of that would be possible without people like Gabriel Jungberg. Gabriel is one of those rare, behind-the-scenes heroes whose passion, commitment, and humility quietly power so much of our success.
From his early days learning the ropes as a tester to becoming our Principal Test Analyst, Gabriel has been a constant presence in the evolution of Foster Moore’s delivery engine. Known for his sharp mind, tireless work ethic, and generosity of spirit, he is as passionate about testing and automation as he is about the people he works alongside.
In this profile, we shine a well-deserved light on someone who never seeks the spotlight but absolutely deserves it.
Let’s start at the beginning. What brought you into the world of technology and testing?
From a very young age, I was drawn to computers. I studied Software Engineering in Argentina because I saw the potential to use automation and technology to improve the way we work and how we do things in general.
What did you do after you graduated?
I worked at Verizon and Repsol, two major corporations with offices in Argentina, doing testing and automation, first to help pay for my studies and then to gain practical experience. I learned a lot, working with international companies and people from all over the world. It opened my eyes to the real world.
So how did New Zealand come into the picture?
After university I wanted a new challenge. A working experience abroad sounded exciting, and I had a friend in New Zealand who encouraged me to come over. Once I arrived, I was lucky to have been introduced to Foster Moore by Ariel Cardieri. He trusted me and supported my application. That was almost 14 years ago, and I have never looked back. I’m very grateful to him for the opportunity and the support he gave me.
Do you remember your early days at Foster Moore?
Absolutely. My first week was really tough. I joined as a tester. I didn’t understand much about anything, and I almost quit at the end of the week. Stephanie Nixon took a chance on me and gave me her trust and then Trudi Donahoe mentored me over time. I owe a lot to them and many others who supported me over the years. I am surrounded by an incredible team of smart, supportive, and respectful people. That team spirit helped me enjoy my job every day and grow.
So, how was the journey from joining as a tester to becoming principal test analyst?
It has been a great journey, a journey of personal and professional growth. I started as a tester, went to become a senior tester, and as the company grew, I had the opportunity to become test lead, and then test manager. When Foster Moore won a large project in Canada, the opportunity presented to move there and I did so as test automation manager, and, after returning to New Zealand and continuing my journey, I got the role I have today as Principal Test Analyst. Quite a journey! What I love the most about it is that I always had the opportunity to stay in the tools and work on projects hands on.
You’ve seen a lot of change in the last 14 years. What is one constant you have experienced over time?
My time at Foster Moore has taught me the importance of evolution and adaptation. Projects change, teams change, sometimes we go through growth, sometimes we stay still. Through it all, I’ve learned that what elevates our work is trust and understanding across teams. My role is to make sure the final product is safe, meets our standards, and is ready to go to production. That responsibility drives everything I do, and I could not do it without the full trust and complicity of my colleagues and customers.
Tell us about your time in Canada. How did you live that experience?
I moved to Toronto from September 2016 to 2018 to work on two key projects there. It was a big shift. I’m very grateful I got to share that experience with my partner. Toronto is a great city with a different climate but a familiar culture. It was a demanding time but also deeply fulfilling. I got to work with amazing colleagues like Gyula, Nick, and Amandeep. The company was very supportive, and we had a great office environment there. I had great memories of the time there and the multiple trips to the US to help set up the office in Cary, North Carolina.
What is one project you remember amongst them all for its significance or impact?
One project that stands out is the work we did for the Government of Ontario delivering the OBR, Ontario Business Registry. It was transformational and let us apply automation and advanced technology for the time in very meaningful ways. I love how innovative the project was and how much I learned about new ways to implement tech to increase efficiencies and work better.
What’s been the most exciting part of working in registries for you?
The constant evolution of tech keeps me excited. In 14 years, I have seen huge shifts. Cybersecurity, automation, and now AI are changing everything. I love that Foster Moore is always fast to adopt new technologies. The AI hype is settling now, and we’re seeing a bigger focus on stability, security and compliance, which is a good thing for us. These are the kinds of developments that help us improve the work we do and make our systems stronger and more reliable.
Emerging technologies like AI are incredibly exciting, especially when you see their potential to streamline processes or increase accuracy, but we have to approach them responsibly in the registry space. Government systems need trust, reliability, and security. So it’s not just about whether the technology works, it’s whether it works safely in a live environment. Testing becomes critical here.
The key is to involve QA early in the development process and collaborate closely with developers to understand the risk profiles. We need to evaluate not just functionality but also ethics, and compliance. If you can do that, AI can become a powerful enabler for registries, not just a buzzword.
What role does automation play in registry systems, and how do you see it evolving in the next few years?
Automation is at the heart of everything I do. It’s what got me into software engineering in the first place. For registries, automation has already been a game changer, helping us increase test coverage, speed up delivery, and reduce human error. But we are only scratching the surface. As tools become smarter, especially with the integration of AI, I think we’ll see more adaptive automation; testing systems that learn from behaviour and proactively flag issues before they even arise. That’s where the future is heading: not just faster delivery, but smarter delivery. It is important to note that human supervision is and will still be needed for some time.
What do you love most about your job?
I genuinely love everything about what I do. Making testing easier, faster, and more efficient is something I take pride in, not just for me, but for the people I work with and others. Every improvement, no matter how small, adds up to better products and a better experience for our clients. That sense of contribution keeps me going and keeps me very excited.
And when you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?
My time outside of work is all about balance. I love going for walks, swimming, and spending time with my partner and our daughter. They keep me grounded and remind me why the work we do matters.
Gabriel’s story is a powerful reminder of the value of perseverance, adaptability, and quiet leadership. Whether he is streamlining testing processes, mentoring others, or finding new ways to bring efficiency and quality into our work, his impact is undeniable. Thanks Gabriel!
We are incredibly proud to have him as part of the Foster Moore family, and even prouder to share his journey with the rest of the registry world.
